Idaho Transportation Department

Illustration & Design

Idaho Transportation Department was one of my main clients while I worked at Duft & Watterson. My company led a full brand refresh including a new illustration style as one of its largest components. The original brief was to use highway-sign imagery as colorful backgrounds and small design accents, but as the project developed, I gave the illustrations a life of their own. Working with our motion graphic designer, I helped create a short video built around that original illustration style. Soon after, the concept evolved further into the clean monoline style now featured across the rest of ITD's advertising.

That change reshaped a large share of ITD's design output. A significant portion of their digital and print ads now center on what the illustrations could do rather than treating them as background elements. The work has been featured across ITD's social media and website, and has won multiple statewide design awards.
